About Soybird

A cooking school born from a love of Greek food, Greek people and the Greek way of eating — slowly,
generously, together.

FOUNDER & HOST

Roman Witt

I've been in love with food my whole life — not just the eating, but the gathering, the making, the sharing. In 2015
I founded two cooking schools in Hamburg, among the first to focus entirely on plant-based cuisine in Germany.
Thousands of guests came through those kitchens, and every class taught me something new about what food
can do for people.

Then Greece happened. I came for the food, stayed for the people, and fell in love with both. The Greek way of eating — seasonal, generous, rooted in the land — felt like everything I had always believed food should be. In 2023 I opened Soybird Kitchen in Koukaki, Athens. It is my most personal project, and the one I am most proud of.

Athens was the obvious choice. It is one of Europe's most vibrant and diverse cities — a place where ancient
history sits next to a thriving food scene, where locals eat with passion and visitors arrive hungry for something real. A city open to the world, curious by nature, and generous at the table. There is nowhere better to bring people together through food.

Soybird Kitchen is not just a cooking school. It is a place where strangers become friends over a shared table — Athenians discovering the depth of Asian cuisines, visitors from around the world falling in love with the Greek kitchen. Every guest leaves with a full stomach, a recipe book, and something they didn't expect: the urge to cook it all again at home.

MODERN ㆍ SEASONAL  ㆍ SUSTAINABILITY

This is how we eat today: food that's good for you and for the planet — without ever compromising on flavour. Everything we cook is made entirely from plants, because we think that's simply the more delicious way forward.

Our Values

MODERN

Greek and Asian cuisines, reimagined for today — bold flavours, fresh techniques, zero compromise.

SEASONAL

We cook with what grows now, what tastes best today. Every menu follows the rhythm of the season.

SUSTAINABLE

Plant-based by conviction, not by trend. We believe this is simply the more delicious — and more responsible — way forward.

THE TEAM

Our Hosts

Our classes are led by passionate, experienced hosts who know their cuisines inside out and love sharing them. They come from different backgrounds — Greek, international, classically trained, self-taught. What they have in common: a genuine love of food, a warm presence at the table, and the ability to make any level of cook feel at home in the kitchen. The faces may change. The standard never does.

The space holds up to 14 guests, ground floor and fully accessible. We opened in 2023 and have since
welcomed over 700 guests from all over the world through these doors.

Where it all began

Before Soybird opened in Athens, there was Hamburg. In 2015, Roman founded the Kurkuma Kochschule — one of Germany's first fully plant-based cooking schools. It is still active today, welcoming guests for regular classes, workshops and events.

Soybird is open to everyone. LGBTQ+ friendly, international, judgment-free. Whether you've never cooked before or cook every day — you belong at this table.
